Share your story about why you considered and ultimately had cosmetic surgery.

I had consultations with two other doctors before deciding on Dr. Joseph. He has done facial surgery on people that I know personally, in addition to being recommended by people who used other surgeons but wished they had used him. His credentials were impeccable, and he was recommended by 1800mySurgeon through a personal call to me. I had the visual acuity test before surgery, and had been planning to have this done for the past 5 years but couldn't get my nerve up for it. I actually canceled a surgery appointment last year at the last minute because of something I heard about the surgeon that I didn't like, and I'm glad I did. My surgery date was within 3 weeks of my first conference with Dr. Joseph, which was a great thing, as I didn't have to spend time dreading the date. I had confidence that he would do a good job, and he did. I had NO pain whatsoever after the surgery, only a dull headache from the anaesthesia the night of the surgery. I only took 2 tylenols the whole time, no sleeping pills and didn't even get the pain pills he prescribed. I kept frozen "pea-packs" on my eyes almost continuously for 2 days, then off and on for the next week. It's been two weeks today, and I'm back to my usual routine except for strenuous exercise. My bruising is almost gone, and I can cover what's left with makeup. Everyone remarks that I look 10 years younger and my eyes look huge now, as they were covered with skin before. I can actually read without "cheaters" now that my eyes are open!

How did your friends and family feel about your decision to have a procedure?

My husband and friends were in total agreement that I needed "something" done with my eyes. You couldn't even see my eyelashes because of the eyelid skin hanging down over them. This is something I've been wanting to do for a very long time now, and I wish I hadn't waited so long. I'm thoroughly satisfied with the results even at two weeks, so I imagine after all the swelling goes down, I will be singing Dr. Joseph's praises to anyone who will listen. I highly recommend this wonderful, caring doctor to anyone interested in having eye surgery done by "one of the best" in the field. He has definitely earned his reputation as a plastic surgeon, and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

How did 1800MySurgeon help you through the process of finding a qualified plastic surgeon?

1800mySurgeon advised me that the two doctors that I was considering did not have the qualifications that a plastic surgeon should have, even though they advertised that they were "board certified". I probably would not have found this out if I hadn't contacted

Can you describe your surgery and recovery?

The surgery was what I expected, and even though we had an hour's drive back home, I was not uncomfortable. I kept icepacks on my eyes for the first two or three days continuously, then on an as-needed basis. There was no pain whatsoever on the surgical sites. The stitch removal stung a little bit, especially at the corners of my eyes, but it was over within minutes. We went out to lunch afterwards, although I wore sunglasses for cosmetic purposes.

What advice would you give to another person considering your same procedure?

Don't let the money be a factor in your decision. I could have had this surgery completely paid for by Medicare, but chose to go with a doctor that I trusted rather than taking the cheap route. It's worth the peace of mind to know you are getting the best there is when it's your skin they are cutting.

How do you feel about your result?

It's been two weeks today, and I feel completely normal except for a small amount of discoloration on my cheeks. I went to a party Saturday night without my sunglasses and didn't feel the slightest bit self-conscious. Everyone remarked on how good I looked. Maybe they were just being nice, but they kept saying it, so I guess it's true.
