Share your story about why you considered and ultimately had cosmetic surgery.

My neck began aging long before I did! By 40 I was self-conscious and became very limited in necklines I could wear. I am 60 now and my neck was aging me badly. Also, in recent years I have been under (sometimes unbearable) stress as a caregiver to several family members. Added to lifelong insomnia, the circles under my eyes were making me look tired 24 hours a day. I decided to make a gift to myself and roll back the clock so that the person I saw in the mirror looked like ME again. The necklift and lower bleph were for me, and me alone. Two weeks post-surgery, the results are encouraging.

How did your friends and family feel about your decision to have a procedure?

So far, I have shared with only a select couple of friends and they have each been very supportive. My family does not yet know and I may decide to not share, if I am fortunate enough to have an outcome that allows me to conceal the procedure. Like others who undergo elective plastic surgery, I do not want to be judged! Dr. Berman is highly conservative and he seems to have understood that I did not want to "go Hollywood" but rather just look rested. I will even continue to leave my grey hair grey as I am comfortable with my age and general appearance. But now I don't look ancient!

How did 1800MySurgeon help you through the process of finding a qualified plastic surgeon?

I needed a surgeon away from my home area and followed up a doctor referral from a friend. After calling 1800mySurgeon, I found out that the doctor - who I ended up NOT choosing - was NOT double board certified, although he alleges to be. If someone is going to work on my face, I want someone who has the experience AND the training to give me the maximum chance for a good outcome.

Can you describe your surgery and recovery?

The surgery was as described to me, but the recovery time was rushed. I went home sooner than I anticipated, but well schooled in what to do and what to expect. I experienced a great deal of pain the first 24 hours which radiated from ears/jaw area and found out in the doctor's office the following day that my earlobes had been caught in the heavy bandaging. Once they were freed, I was far more comfortable. Except for that, the pain was well managed and I experienced no post-anesthesia nausea or difficulties. Each day, the bruising diminishes and the swelling subsides, although I am still swollen underneath my chin and the sides of my neck. I am also quite numb in the general neck/chin area, but I expect that and it is improving gradually.

What advice would you give to another person considering your same procedure?

The lower eyelid lift has made me look rested and therefore I feel rested! It's wonderful. The neck lift (in my case, anyway) is a little more than I bargained for. It involved longer incisions and, so far anyway, more swelling than I thought. I have readjusted my recovery expectations and now know it will be months before the final results are in. Meanwhile, I can go out but I cringe that close friends and family might notice the pulling behind my ears (my hair is short) and the irregular appearance under my neck. I expect that, in time, this will all diminish greatly.

How do you feel about your result?

So far, I am pleased. Eyes look much, much better and neckline is smoother than I even thought it would be. Most of the swelling and funny appearance is under my chin (it does show) and around my ears. My earlobes have yet to "relax" and resume their normal appearance.
