When I looked the mirror, I couldn't see anything except my jowls. I used to pull up my lower face to see what I would look like if the jowls were gone. I became obsessed with my lower face, and was very unhappy about the way I looked. Also, in 2004, I had eyelid surgery, and was not happy with the results. The left eye dropped a stitch, and healed improperly. It looked funny compared to the right eye. I was hesitant to have more surgery, because I was not happy with the first surgery, and was afraid I’d make things worse. I think the thing that finally helped me make my decision was when I went home for my niece’s high school graduation. I love my mom, dearly, but she has jowls like a bulldog! My sister, who is two years older than I, is starting to get pretty jowly, as well. They’re both beautiful women, but those jowls…yikes! Also, when I looked at some pictures of myself, I could see that drooping left eye. That did it. I got on line, and found the 1-800-Mysurgeon website. They referred me to Dr. Ronel. I made an appointment, and was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Ronel, and his staff. They’re all wonderful people, and put me completely at ease. I scheduled my surgery for August 6th, and was given a 10% discount for scheduling during my consultation. Can’t beat that!

How did your friends and family feel about your decision to have a procedure?

I haven't told anyone that I was having more cosmetic surgery, except for my husband. He was all for my getting the corrections from my past surgery. I was very open about the first surgery, but decided to see how this one went before telling anyone else. My husband was very supportive.

How did 1800MySurgeon help you through the process of finding a qualified plastic surgeon?

1800mysurgeon referred me to Dr. Ronel who practices in Santa Fe. They scheduled a consultation for me, and called to do follow up. At that time, I told them that I was very pleased with the doctor to whom they had referred me and had scheduled the surgery for August 6th.

Can you describe your surgery and recovery?

The surgery was the easy part. I had quite a bit of work done, and hurt pretty badly, for the first three days following surgery. I also developed a hematoma, on my left jaw, which refused to stay drained. I think this the result of an injury I sustained to that area when I was in my early 20s. I got hit in the jaw with a water ski at Lake Powel. It fractured my jaw, and did a lot of soft tissue damage. Dr. Ronel kept draining the hematoma, and it kept filling right back up again. He ended up having to put a drain into the left side of my jaw, which set my recovery, and return to work, back by several days. I was surprised by how much I hurt the first few days after surgery. It was pretty painful. Also, I had no idea how hard it was going to be to chew my food! My diet consisted of a lot of soup and ice cream. It took several weeks before I could chew solid foods (like steak) without pain. I guess this is completely normal when you have a facelift.

What advice would you give to another person considering your same procedure?

Make sure you have a good surgeon! 1800mySurgeon is a good place to start! Also, remember that this is not a game. They make it look so easy when you watch it on TV, but don’t you believe it! This is real surgery, with real pain, and possible complications. I went back to work, after 2 ½ weeks, but still had residual bruising almost a month after the surgery. I still have formication (feels like ants crawling under your skin), and will probably have it for a couple more months. It’s not very pleasant, and is caused by the nerves regenerating. Full recovery can take up to a year, although you’re pretty much back to normal after 4-5 months.

How do you feel about your result?

I love the way I look! I'm so glad I had the was more than worth it! The more my face heals, the more I like it. My eyes look so pretty now, and I easily look ten years younger. I've noticed a lot of men doing the old double take on me! Makes me feel absolutely great! I feel that if you're unhappy about your appearance, do something about it. I did, and I don't regret it in the least!
