Breast Revision Surgery

Some people say that you need to have your breasts re-done after you have kids or after 10 years. Is that true? I am also wondering if losing sensation in your nipples is a common thing.

My advice would be - If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

There is a common myth advocating that you have to get your breasts redone after you have kids or after 10 years. What I tell patients is that breast implants are not permanent devices and that they do have a finite lifespan, almost like a car tire.

However, if you’re not having a problem, even in 10 years, and you’re not having any pain or change in the breast shape, I don’t see a reason for you to go and exchange them.

If you decide that you want to go bigger or smaller, that could be a reason to have breast revision, but if you are happy and everything’s fine, I wouldn’t advise a patient to do a thing.

In regards to how breast implants may be affected after kids, that really depends on whether or not you gained breast size during nursing, or if you have lost a lot of volume.

Loss in nipple sensation is very uncommon. It is very common in the several weeks after breast augmentation surgery to have some numb or altered sensations in the nipple area, but that is sometimes the result of some of the nerves being stretched. Invariably, for 99% of patients, nipple sensation comes back to normal.
