Should New Moms Wait for Cosmetic Surgery?

How long do you have to wait for cosmetic surgery after childbirth?

The after effects of childbirth can be disconcerting to some Mothers. Pregnancy and the hormonal fluctuations associated with pregnancy can cause changes in the entire body. Most commonly, the abdomen and breasts are affected. Over the past 16 years, I have received calls from new Moms complaining about their once perky breasts heading south and their once firm abs replaced with a "pooch" that no amount of situps have been able to cure.

If breast enhancement surgery (implants or uplift without implants) is requested, we recommend Mom wait approximately 6-12 months after childbirth before having cosmetic surgery of the breast. A mother must be finished breastfeeding and she can no longer be lactating.

Should a request for abdominal procedures be requested, Mom needs to wait approximately 3 months after childbirth. One may want to consider whether cosmetic surgery should be pursued if another pregnancy is planned in the future.
