Got Wrinkles?
We all have to deal with getting older at some point in our lives. We can’t reverse the aging process or stop it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we have to live with the signs of aging either.
The first signs of aging you’ve most likely noticed are the tiny lines around your eyes and cheeks, which are more apparent when you smile. With each year that goes by, you will begin noticing that those tiny lines turn into deeper, more defined lines. If you’ve got wrinkles, there may be a plastic surgery procedure that’s right for you.
Dynamic wrinkles, static wrinkles and wrinkle folds are the three types of wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle contractions that cause the skin to bunch up. Muscle contractions form lines between the muscle, such as in the case of lines above the eyebrows, horizontally across the forehead, or “crow’s feet” which are located on the corners of the eyes. Dynamic wrinkle treatments include eyelid surgery, a brow lift or forehead lift. Botox® injections can also be used to temporarily decrease the muscle action so that wrinkles are prevented from forming.
Static wrinkles are caused by a lack of elasticity in the skin. Years of sun damage, possible smoking, poor nutrition, pollution, genetics or long periods of dynamic wrinkling are all factors for static facial wrinkles. Static wrinkles are visible even when muscles do not contract. There are several techniques that can remove the static wrinkles damaged skin. Laser skin resurfacing can stimulate new collagen and contribute to the skin’s appearance. Chemical peels and other lasers can also increase the thickness of the skin. Sun protection is also critical for preventing sun damage.
Wrinkle folds are caused by the sagging of primary facial structures that cause deep lines between the nose and mouth. Wrinkle folds can be treated by mid-face lifts, cheek lifts, and neck lifts. The wrinkle folds can also be temporarily treated by collagen through injectable fillers such as Restylane® and Perlane®. Another great way to permanently remove wrinkles is by Facial Fat Grafting, which works by taking your own fat and injecting it into the desired area on the face.
Ask your plastic surgery for which treatment is recommended for you. It is also important to ask about the long-term results of the treatments, how many treatments you may need in the future and how you can prepare for recovery.
