Breast lift is a common cosmetic surgery procedure performed to lift and revitalize sagging breasts. Some women may experience stretching or sagging of the breasts after pregnancy, breast feeding or significant weight loss. Having the breast lift procedure may help. However, women who decide on the breast lift procedure should have realistic expectations about what this type of surgery can do for them.

Breast lift is a complex procedure that is meant to raise and reshape sagging breasts. Typically, women who make good candidates for breast lift surgery:

  • Are bothered by having sagging breasts
  • Are unhappy with the loss of shape and volume of their breasts
  • Have flat, elongated breasts
  • Have unsupported nipples that fall bellow the crease of the breasts
  • Have nipples that face downward
  • Have stretched breast skin which have enlarged the areolas
  • Have asymmetrical breasts, where one breast is lower than the other
  • Have a physically healthy and have a stable weight
Breast lift surgery is an effective way to lift and bring shape back to both small and large breasted women. Women who plan to have children might want to consider postponing breast lift surgery until after pregnancy and breast feeding. Setting realistic expectations for yourself is key. Improving the look of your breasts will not completely change who you are as a person or solve major life problems. Remember that the best candidates for breast lift are women who understand what the procedure entails and who are emotionally stable.

Speaking to your Board Certified Surgeon about your expectations and goals will help you make sure that breast lift surgery is the right option for you. Often times, breast lift surgery is combined with breast implants or breast reduction surgeries so that the patient’s desired outcome is achieved. Your surgeon will be able to discuss your options and tell you what procedure fits your needs best.
