"Face" the Facts

Let’s “face” it – everyone will experience old age at one time or another. Some of us haven’t quite hit old age yet, but are trying to prevent wrinkles and maintain our youthful looks. Well, it’s good to know that we have options.

In the 30s, sun exposure show signs of aging such as “crow’s feet” around the eyes and temple. By the 40s, the cheeks lose fat and laugh lines show up. By the 50s, the skin around the neck relaxes and by the 60s and 70s, individuals lose a large quantity of fat in the face, giving way to hanging skin.

Patients who experience the first signs of aging around the eyes and temple or those who experience deflated cheeks can smooth out the barely-there lines with quick and easy BOTOX® or filler injections.

For those with loose skin around the neck and a noticeable loss of facial fat, a combination of facelift, BOTOX® and face implants may be a good solution to rejuvenating the face, giving a smooth, refreshed look.

Plastic surgeons have the knowledge and expertise required to offer patients with quality advice for which facial cosmetic procedure is right for them. During consultation, a plastic surgeon can assess patients and save them from having the wrong procedure done. They study the patient’s age, bone structure and the shape of the patient’s eyes, cheeks and face, in order to determine which procedure is right for them.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeon (ASPS), more than 104,000 facelifts, 53,000 forehead lifts and 233,000 non-surgical procedures with injectable fillers such as BOTOX® were used in 2006.
